My daughter is an Olympic gold medalist shopper. She comes by it naturally. Both her maternal grandmother and her father could quite easily compete with her for the title. I remember shopping with my mom with as a
child. It was a favorite mother-daughter activity. We would dress up, visit my father in his office (he was president of a chain of department stores called Younker Brothers), then shop, have lunch in the Tea Room
along with the fashion shows I adored, then shop some more until my little legs wouldn’t hold me up any longer. Fond memories but, the shopping gene skipped a generation, and now it’s Tatjana that makes
me shop until I drop. We had a blast cleaning out stores in both Des Moines and Los Angeles this past trip! Sadly, the Tea Room is long gone, but we did manage to find a restaurant in Des Moines that still serves
rarebit burgers that taste just like the ones I used to crave as a child, and Tatjana happily got her first sample. I meant to make them for you, but my week got away from me, so I promise you rarebit burgers in a future post.
Now Tatjana has flown back to London in time to see the other shopping gold medalist (her father) and Duran Duran play in the BT concert in Hyde Park tonight to celebrate the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympics along with Snow Patrol, Stereophonics and Paolo Nutini, and I am left eyeing up our loot. Who’s the gold medal shopper in your household?
11:28 am
Me. DEFINITELY me. LOL Without a doubt. Although, once my youngest gets a job she may give me a run for my money, or her money as the case may be.
8:41 pm
Rachel put me to shame today. I bow before the Queen. LOL
11:25 am
My ex is definitely the gold medal shopper in our family. I am the one always getting on him for spending too much. Just because you have the money, doesn’t mean you need to get rid of it just as quick. This past weekend I drove to Sacramento to pick the boys up from the ex and get my computer upgraded. He spent a good $2,000 almost in just a day and a half. GEEZ!
7:30 am
Didn’t Danny Boyle rock it last night/ this morning?!
3:44 pm
Spectacular, but I still think Beijing is hard to top.

Sadly, it’s me…I window shop…then when the cocktail dress I can’t resist is marked down 75%, I buy it. I am too scared to travel but hands to heaven my friends take those dresses on some really fun trips…so lucky…I love seeing my dresses having fun!
3:45 pm
Well at least you are a smart shopper, and very generous to let your dresses travel!
6:45 pm
Three of my cocktail dresses are aboard ship on their way to Bermuda with a good friend and her family. I can’t wait to see the pictures. I miss the days before flight from heck…I will drive but fly, not so much…I used to live in Britain…guess where…how may @@S@@ girls does it make to make chocolate biscuits…7…one to buy the smarties, three to peel them, one to mix the batter, one to turn on the cooker, one to watch.

I am an addict. Not just clothes, handbags, shoes and MAC make up (my first passions) but Danish modern furniture, Ikea, hand made glass, hand made jewelry, pottery, dishes, cake supplies, paint, cooking and baking supplies and tools, home decorating stuff, and nail polish |(essie and china glaze)
The piece I still dream about to this day was a cashmere Armani coat I tried on in 1994. Someone was stupid enough to ok a credit card for me at Holt Renfrew (an upscale designer clothing store in Canada) and whenever I wanted inspiration for school or wanted cheering up, I headed there and Tiffany’s which was across the street. They sent a mailing of the new Armani line and there was the holiest of holy grails: the coat. It was a rich taupe colour with a slight rose hue to it… slightly fitted to the waist and came to my ankles. The collar was a soft, simple ruffle and it fit like an absolute glove. I was ready to max out the Holt card, the visa and beg for spare change as I think it was about six grand if not more. It felt like wearing a cloud and the high I got from trying it on was not of this earth. *sigh*

I’m generally a very cautious shopper, especially with a mortgage on the go. But, when I paid off my the mortgage on my first home, I went out shopping to celebrate. I rarely had more than two purchases on my credit card, the two regular expenses I had each month. My little shopping spree was such that there was a message on my answering machine by the time I got home, asking me to call them immediately. I called and confirmed that yes, I really had spent that much in one shoppe on some rather nice clothing, business appropriate. LOL Nice to know that warning bells go off when a cardholder spends more than usual! Sad thing is that I didn`t get to wear a lot of the clothing since I got ill and the clothing was too large for me. I donated it to a charity so some ladies got some nice clothing at very reasonable prices. Now, I live in track pants, t-shirts and only occasionally get dressed up. Kind of miss it!

In my house…..ME!!!!!!!
3:47 pm
I just seem to pay the bills.
3:46 pm
Ph dear Rachel – you and Tatjana would be dangerous together.
2:36 pm
Go on and treat yourself occasionally Ruthee! It’s an important part of feeling good about ourselves as a woman to get dressed up once in a while – even if it is for no one else but ourselves. xo

Dear friends and dear Jewels shopping done with the head (and of course money) is all good health! done to fill some emptiness inside anything we buy will never be enough! I do not drink or smoke but I like to watch and buy good food and a passion for shoes and bags.
How many people have so much money and saves them in the drawer … believe me I work in a bank!
