I’ll preface this with a very grateful “she is okay,” but my daughter was hit by a mini-cab in London earlier today. She was crossing (in the crosswalk) when the car came barrelling round the corner, running a red light in the process.

Lioness with cub: Julie Anne and Tatjana Rhodes

Accidents do happen, and thank God she is only bruised and shaken up by the incident, but mommy lion here can’t stop pacing (five thousand miles away I might add). Once I get past the realization of how easily I could have lost the one person I love most in the world through this man’s negligence, the adrenalin will not stop pumping over what happened next.
Tatjana Rhodes
He stopped just long enough to shout obscenities at her for getting in his way, then sped off. What happened to “I’m terribly sorry, are you all right, do you need assistance?” What happened to all the bystanders who didn’t lift a finger to help her, or call for help? What has happened to our humanity people?

I know I shouldn’t blog and post in this condition, but I really need to vent. Please excuse the indiscretion this once.

somehow, words like humanity, kindness and concern are not familiar to those kind of men. To them, rudeness is a sign of power, along with owning/driving big cars to prove they 'matter'. Luckly, Tatjana is fine: that is what really matters.Nicoletta Appodia

OMG JulieAnne… I am so happy Tatjana is ok. How absolutely terrifying for you and so shock inducing for her. I hope her bruises mend quickly.I can't agree more with you about our humanity… where in the world has it gone?? What happened to please, thank you, excuse me, and most importantly I am sorry.A similar event to this happened to me … the man pushed me out of the way with his car because i was standing in a parking spot he wanted. Not even the police wanted me to file a report. They gave me all sorts of reasons why it would be such a problem… in fact i was actually blamed for standing in a parking spot! All we can do is forgive and keep ourselves in balance. Remain grateful …. Blessings to you and Tatjana HUGS sent to you both

I'm really sorry to hear this has happened and you must be relieved to hear she's just come out of this with bruises. I'm sure the Police will be able to use CCTV to get the numberplate of the mini-cab and the driver should be charged with a hit and run as he has failed to stop and wait for the Police, please encourage Tat to go to her local police station and report this animal for hitting her and failing to stop or reporting this to the police himself, it is a crime to hit someone and not wait for the police to arrive and the owner (who may not necessarily be the driver) would be able to tell police who was driving and they would be arrested. Please don't let this person get away with this crime, next time a pedestrian may not be so lucky and will be killed by this maniac. Mini-cab drivers in London are the worst and more than likely the reason the driver didn't wait for police is because he could be an illegal immigrant or have several criminal convictions so its in best interest to pursue this person. Just glad that she's going to be ok 🙂

Julie Anne, you have every right to be pi##ed and that's putting it mildly. Hope Tatjana is okay and on the mend. While the bruises heal on their own, nothing beats Mama Bear's and Papa Bear's love and caring. Hoping that driver is minus a certain delicate part of the anatomy should you or ex find the jerk. I have a cane you can borrow should you find the need. The pick on the end comes in rather handy on occasion and not just for stability on the ice. Hugs to you my cyber buddy and you can roar any time you need.

I'm glad she's ok! But do be sure to get Nick's solicitor or another PI solicitor involved to get this idiot to justice. CCTV is great when you need. Lord knows we in the UK are the most watched in the world, so hopefully you'll be able to get evidence. I work in a solicitor's office so I know how important it is to gather all the evidence you can. Any witnesses that helped her at all? I'm not surprised if not. Londoners are usually too busy to deal with anyone except themselves. A very sad and shameful fact.

Dear Julie Anne,I'm happy she is okay, and that she has Nick with her to help her right now. I am a mother and believe you me,I "feel" your anger. Please stop apologizing for being so,you are not only entitled,it is human and motherly nature. Let your emotions cycle, naturally,it is part of the healing process and will help you to better "forgive" later. And don't you worry, the police will catch him,and if they don't,then karma will. Please take care. With Love,Amelia..

Thank you everyone, but Lisa – I especially love what you said about harnessing those lioness feelings. Very interesting food for thought, and will be attempting to do so.Guys – Nick and I spent so many years in the courts with lawyers, neither one of us are keen to do so again. I hope the police catch the guy and prosecute, and Tatjana will decided if she wants to take it further (after all she is a fully fledged adult now), but I think she would rather keep her distance from this guy, and wisely so.

  • November 9, 2010
    8:35 pm

Firstly vent away, sometimes that venting helps and at least you got it off your chest.I only just caught up with all this and I am so sorry to hear that Tatjana had such an unpleasant experience, when she was abiding by the law of the land. No doubt she will be eager to dust herself off and carry on. With luck the police will be able to chase this moron and prosecute because if he does it again the person may not be as lucky as Tatjana. It cannot have been easy for you being stuck in LA and not able to reach her, that must be incredibly hard for you. I really hope that if they do catch the moron responsible (I am being kind using the word moron) that you aren't around to meet him, oh the poor man..he'd wish he'd never have been born. (me I would tell him that he is lucky I haven't cut off his bits and made them into earrings). Just let Tatjana know that we're all wishing her well

  • November 9, 2010
    10:50 pm

Tatjana's message to you "I really love you mum" and your post saying how grateful you are that she's around to send you that message, out of all that's been written, those words come from her heart and yours. Julie Anne, that's terrible. I agree, where has civility gone? She is very fortunate to not have been injured more seriously!Someone hit my mom in a parking lot a couple of weeks ago (I've been caring for her…her leg's broken, and she had some other issues, all from a small bump…and she's been a real grouch –shhh don't tell her I said that!) and they got out of the car and screamed at her while she was laying there. Their taillights were not working so she didn't notice he was about to back out, but he didn't see her either. The security person for the store came out and helped after someone reported it. I wanted to find this guy and smack him one, and if it had been my kid, I would have already done so. 😉 The policeman told me this is very common behavior lately, the lack of civility.
